WHAT A MAROON!
****Pikes Peak Pyramid Plan Gets Attention!
(Pyramid Would Be Alien Refueling Station.)
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- For the summit of Pikes Peak, America's Mountain, Phil Hill wants to let you in on a secret: "They're up there now and they would love to come down. They have no docking stations here," he said.
He goes by UFO Phil, and he calls himself a scientist, of sorts, and an alien translator.
He didn't come up with the idea on his own.
7NEWS cameras went inside his workshop in a secret location in Colorado Springs, where he said the aliens gave him the pyramid blueprints.
Watch the story tonight on 7NEWS at 10 p.m.
At 480 feet tall and 755 feet wide, the Pikes Peak alien refueling station/ hydrogen power plant would take up much of the summit.
"The visitor's center and coffee bar -- that has to go," said UFO Phil. "Not because I have anything against them. There's just no room."
But if we build it, he said, they will come.
He's requested the paperwork to have a special construction permit on the mountain.
According to his website, UFO Phil has a long history of close encounters.
Born outside the infamous UFO town of Roswell, N.M., he later launched an extra-terrestrial-themed performing career with the catch phrase, "Can you keep a secret?"
7NEWS found a growing following of fans who can keep a secret, both online and in the most unlikely of locations -- the base of America's Mountain.
Many in Manitou Springs make their living off the mountain and have mixed feelings.
"If he doesn't do it, I'm stuck on this planet for another 50 years," said one man.
"OK, say they get here, what do they bring to us?" asked another longtime resident.
"I want to get a job washing windshields on spaceships!" shouted another.
7NEWS rode along with the manager of Pikes Peak to the summit to find out if there was any way the pyramid could happen.
"Can you keep a secret?" asked Jack Glaven, the manager of Pikes Peak, with a smile.
He is kidding, though there really may be new construction on the mountain.
"We do have plans for a summit house. It's not in the shape of a pyramid, though," said Glaven.
What about the aliens?
"We're always open to visitors. We would welcome them just as we welcome any other tourist," said Glaven.
But every time UFO Phil looks out his window to the peak, he knows something is missing.
So he'll keep trying, because as it turns out, the aliens' biggest secret is "Pikes Peak or Bust."
