****Security Changes For Government In Grocery Program
(Police Posted For First Safeway Meeting Since Tucson Shooting.)

LAKEWOOD, Colo. -- A local congressman held the first government in grocery meeting since the deadly shootings at a Safeway in Arizona.

As Rep. Gabby Giffords recovers, Rep. Earl Perlmutter, D-Colo, renewed his Safeway sessions in Lakewood.

"In the past we've done these pretty much every other Saturday morning, and then my friend Gabby got shot in that terrible shooting down in Tucson at the beginning of January," said Perlmutter.

That's when Perlmutter put his government in grocery meetings on hold. He met with law enforcement and Safeway to make some changes. For the first time police were on site for the Safeway session.

"The customer's safety is considered. The employee safety is considered. The people who are coming just to talk to me, their safety is considered, and my staff," Perlmutter said.

7NEWS asked Perlmutter if it was too soon after the shootings in Tucson to renew the grocery meetings.

"No it's not. It's the right time to get going again. You can see that we've had 100 people at least here today. We needed to just get going again, and i know my friend Gabby would want us to get going again," Perlmutter said.
