****Troopers: Marijuana Thrown Out SUV Windows During Chase!
(Carjacking Led To 170-Pound Marijuana Seizure, Police Say.)
RAWLINS, Wyo. -- Troopers and special agents in Wyoming are investigating an armed carjacking they said led to the seizure of 170 pounds of high-grade marijuana.
The Wyoming Highway Patrol said it got a call Friday night about an alleged carjacking on Interstate 80 near Sinclair. The victims told troopers their vehicle was taken by force by people in a red SUV.
Troopers said they spotted the carjacked vehicle and a red SUV at the Fort Steele interchange. Troopers said it appeared two people were taking items from the carjacked vehicle and putting the items into the red SUV.
As troopers approached the vehicles, they said the red SUV sped away.
As troopers chased the vehicle, they said they saw the occupants throwing large bricks of marijuana out the window of the SUV.
The chase continued for more than 15 miles to Rawlins where one person jumped out of the SUV and ran, troopers said. That person was arrested.
The driver of the SUV crashed into a snow bank and got away on foot, troopers said.
Troopers said the carjacking victims were transporting their illegal load from Utah to North Carolina. The marijuana had a street value of around $425,000.
