****Colo. Getting ICE Fingerprint Plan To ID Illegal Immigrants.
DENVER -- Governor Bill Ritter is expected to announce that Colorado will join a federal immigration program aimed at catching illegal immigrants by using fingerprints from jail bookings.
Two officials familiar with the program say Ritter will make the announcement Tuesday morning and talk about modifications made to the program to address concerns from immigrant advocacy groups. The two people spoke on the condition of anonymity because they weren't authorized to speak before the announcement.
Ritter's spokesman didn't immediately return a call and an e-mail for comment.
The program run by the federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement, called Secure Communities, uses fingerprints to check a person's immigration status during jail bookings. The program is in place in 35 states.
