In a time not to far from the future, virtual reality will no longer be just a dream. But for a few select individuals out there, their world has already made the jump to the matrix. Why trundle and trudge along with the daily grind of life, when an alternative reality exists out there, in its glorious high-definition and saturated colours? Plug in. Knock yourself out.

Jeanette Lim is a 21-year old aspiring filmmaker. Currently majoring in Broadcast and Cinema studies at Wee Kim Wee School of Communication and Information, Nanyang Technological University, she has directed and been involved in the production of several student films.

STORIES / JAMES HO / 16 MIN / 2010 / PG

Ah Gong (Grandfather) is new to the family and dislikes his grandson, Jim, so he decides to bridge the gap with imaginative, and ficticious, stories of his heroics. Jim is drawn in by the stories but learns that Ah Gong is not what he portrays himself to be. Ah Gong must then earn back the trust of his grandson.

A Ngee Ann Polytechnic graduate with a Diploma in Film, Sound & Video, James likes to attempt things out of the ordinary such as, turning a library into a disco in RingTone (2009) or filming a paper boat floating out to sea in Paperboat (2009). More recently, James embarked on a film called Stories (2010), where he integrates elements of a samurai, gangster, hero and even a hamster into the film. He is now currently in the process of conceptualizing another unique short film.

Longkangs (drains), kites and spiders? A pair of modern day brothers, Kor and Boy, compete in a series of childhood games and realise that the past is worth remembering.

Justin, a second year student at National University of Singapore, is a storyteller with a passion for art and film. He has worked on a string of films ranging from short narratives to foreign documentaries.

SUMMER AND ITS RAIN / JOSHUA SIMON / 10 MIN / 2010 / PG

In a world that has lost its colour, a young woman uses music to restore vibrancy to her life.

Joshua recently graduated from the Film, Sound and Video course at Ngee Ann Polytechnic. His film, 25th of Laura, was a finalist at the 2010 Singapore International Film Festival.
