FLARE 2009 - Uncompromised 'GLARE-mour'

The first graduating batch of filmmaking students from the NTU School of Art, Design and Media pulled together resources, brains, money and lots of flair to put a grand showcase of their films, titled FLARE. Please note that this is not a film festival so it is considered a private screening. For reviews of the films, do scroll down the blog.
Larger than human-form, FLARE glitters in the middle of it all. Glossy posters line the walkway.

A quite straight-forward no-nonsense introduction...

The crowd that stayed on after the screening ... (possibly intermixed with free-riding friends who might have come for the free champagne:P)

One Plus One-Kelly Swee(Substation First Take July)

A story of two lonely people,who have similar yearnings for someone to accompany them,due to their solitary lives and an unknown sense of loneliness.The two characters turn out to complement each other.

This film is Kelly's first film produced and directed.Using the theories of what she learnt in her module to produce the film.

Personally I think that this storyline sounds like a mix of a movie and a song.
I feel that the film seems like a rendition or even a Cover of a novel.
As Such,the impression to the short is actually not so significant to me.
There is no problem with the casting,they are really match in the film.

But I believe there is more room for improvement as this is her 1st reel.

CRAB!-Jolene Teo(Substation First Take July)

Crab! is a Lighthearted but full of warmth film where Seng is a grown man who hasn't grown up.Contented with spending his days at his father's famousalbeit small restaurant and lacking true ambition,his life is turned around when his father,Huat,falls sick.Not bearing to agitate his father,Seng has no choice but to plunge himself into the world of cooking,and a position of responsibility that he hasn't quite the skill for.But this soon reveals itself to be the least of his worries.

The lightheartedness of the film has mixed its essence of the film made the film enjoyable and also filled the theatre with laughters.The casting in the film is strong,and thus the film is well done as a team.
