The Release-Timothy J. Alvin

The accident that left Jia Hao and his mother paralysed took the live of their loving husband and father and left the family broken.3 months forward,though it seems well on the surface,Jia Hao drifted from his mother,whom he blamed for the accident.When Hui Juan entered his life and his flat,Jia Hao has to forgo one relationship.Love and Family,can he make the right choice?

This is Timothy J. Alvin's debut work after he graduated from Republic Polytechnic's Diploma In New Media(School Of Technology for the Arts).

This is also the first film in Dialect(Hokkien).

Based on the idea from a newspaper article which happened more than 20 years ago where this lady actually practiced the release of her senile dementia mother-in-law.

Considering the fact of the occurrence of the case happened in an aging population like Singapore,
I applaud and also touched on the director's message in the film.
当你选择你的最爱时,别想再能将它找回来。

Another point which I feel about the short a unique one is its long shots.
The long shots enables the audience feel the plight of the mother and also bring the audience closer.

This short has given me a strong impact to be filial to parents no matter what happens and also given me an opportunity to reflect at that point of time.

I would say that this is a high impact short that I ever caught so far.

To end this review,Here's the trailer of THE RELEASE.Enjoy!

小字条 “Little Note” Review

Living with little wants in the countryside, Zhiren and his mother expressed their love and support for each other in a simple way - by exchanging little notes. These words of encouragement spurred their every step forward in life, helping them cast aside fear and despair in times of uncertainty.

Interweaving poetic cinematography, intricate scenes of mother-and-son intimacy and a heartfelt original score, Little Note will meander its way into your heart like a clear, pristine stream.

On the footnote,I feel that this is a good film in terms of the touchy message spread in the film.
but there are something which I feel that we(Jeremy and I) had thought about.

The mother in the film is pretty "over" in terms of the language.
The term "over" is meant by overacted of the female lead in the film.
We actually wondered if the female lead is supposed to be in the countryside or in the city.If it is in the city,we understand.But in countryside,shouldn't the language be as simple as possible?

That is the only point we thought of.

But there are some pet phrases that we actually liked like:
你不是没有爸爸,你的爸爸在这里(points to heart) is one that we like the most.

Overall,we feel that the short film is Great but with a minor flaw.

~~~ INTERMISSION ~~~
I know you may wondering why there hasn't been a new post in SINdie for the longest time. You may be wondering if we are hibernating,
soul-searching or
renovating.
I personally have been busy with personal affairs and also working on a film script myself. My fellow members are also in the midst of school, making films or work. We are sorry if we have kept you starving for information or scoops on local films. But we promise to be back very soon with a new opening number...
