****Teavana Tea Recalled Because Of Possible Salmonella Contamination!

DENVER -- Teavana Corp. has recalled 2,700 pounds of its Peppermint Organic Herbal Tea, including some sold at its metro Denver stores, due to possible salmonella contamination.

State health officials advised individuals who may have purchased the tea not to consume it and return it to the place of purchase for a refund.

Fifty-four pounds of the dry tea was sold in Teavana stores at Flatiron Crossing Mall in Broomfield, Cherry Creek Mall in Denver and Park Meadows Mall in Lonetree between Dec. 4, 2010, and Feb. 16, 2011, health officials said.

Mail-order and Internet stock was sold between Nov. 30, 2010, and Feb. 16, 2011, health officials said. There are no lot or batch numbers on the packaging.

The tea was produced by Aromatics Inc., of Basin City, Wash., and is sold in stores measured to customers’ orders or in 2-oz. prepackaged pouches via mail order,

Salmonella is a food-borne bacteria that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems, state health officials said. Healthy people infected with salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain.

No illnesses in Colorado from the Teavana tea have been reported, health officials said.

For more information on the recall and instructions on returning the product, contact Teavana’s customer service line at 877-832-8262.
