JERRY BROWN: YOU TUBE IS CHEAP!

Regardless of what happens in Jerry's first term in office, no one can deny this a very clever way to reach out to Californians!

"Air time" is cheap and I'm not sure that the ''equal time" (Political) would even apply!

California Gov. Jerry Brown -- just hours after the end of the state GOP convention -- has hit YouTube to make an appeal regarding the state budget deal, urging California voters to support a special election and his tax extension plan.

Brown's commentary comes just as Republicans appear to be hardening their stance against it: GOP State Sen. Tony Strickland of Simi Valley this morning told KSFO that if Brown wants to put tax extensions on the ballot, Republicans intend to make sure that a tax cut option is also included.

In a move that harkened back to his low-budget, no-frills gubernatorial campaign, Brown's message was a short and to-the-point social media appeal for his proposals.

"Amazingly, there's been a lot of cooperation and a lot of progress,'' he said. But "it's time to balance our books."

Big cuts have been made, but "we're only halfway there" to put the state books in balance, he said. "Drastic cuts" will be needed to education, fire services and schools, "and I don't think it should be done to you without your voice,'' Brown noted. "This is a matter of we the people taking charge."

"I don't see this as a Republican or a Democratic issue,'' Brown said.

But clearly, Republicans have their own strategy in the wake of a combative convention this weekend -- as evidenced by Strickland's message today to KSFO's Brian Sussman: "We entrust the people of CA to have that option...we just want more than one option before the voters."

"We'll go along with that vote, the proposal to raise taxes...all we have to do is to also have a full tax cut before the voters,'' he said. "Then the peeople of California have a true choice and true option."
