With state, county & city budgets all in the crapper, the richest county in the US of A gets a $9.1 million tax supported grant to improve an Aspen airport.
There are probably some folks in Aspen who could foot the entire bill themselves!
The rich get richer and the poor get poorer!

****Aspen Airport Gets $9.1M Grant For Runway.
ASPEN, Colo. -- Pitkin County has received a $9.1 million federal grant, clearing the way for the long-planned extension of the runway at the Aspen-area airport.
The Aspen Times reported the $14.5 million project will start this spring and will be financed with money from the Federal Aviation Administration, the Colorado Division of Aeronautics and airport capital reserve funds. Jim Elwood, county aviation director, said the grant arrived Thursday.
The 1,000-foot extension at the south end of the runway of the Aspen-Pitkin County Airport will allow aircraft to depart with more passengers and fuel and fly to more distant destinations.
Commercial aircraft usually operate at less than full capacity because of the runway length and the airport's elevation -- about 7,800 feet. It's particularly difficult in the summer when air density is lower.
